24.78ct Pink Diamond On Auction

24.78ct Pink Diamond Auction

Sotheby’s is putting up for auction a gem you normally encounter once in a lifetime; a 24.78ct fancy intense pink diamond, that once belonged to the Harry Winston collection. The color grading for such an important weight on a diamond is not only extraordinary, but it further has been classified as a type IIa gem, a classification that appears in less than 2% of gems in the world. This means that it has a particularly significant amount of nitrogen in it’s composition, which affects the physical and optical properties of the diamond. The GIA further established it as a VVS2 clarity, however, the stone has been re-polished since it’s original certification by Harry Winston, and may very well be Flawless. The diamond is a classic emerald cut, but with gently rounded corners, giving it a softer edge.

Estimated between CHF27 million and CHF38 million, it will be on auction in Geneva on November 16th 2010, but preceding the event, the diamond will be shown in exhibitions in Hong Kong, the Middle East, London, New York.
